Alexander Fleming, discoverer of penicillin, was born in 1881 in Lochfield, Scotland. After graduating from medical school Hospital St. Mary in London, Fleming throw themselves in the field of immunity inquiry. Later, as an army surgeon in World War 1, he studied the particulars of infection in wounds and she found that antiseptics destroy many body cells more than he destroy germs. Fleming realized, what is needed is something other than kill the bacteria but not damaging and dangerous for human body cells.

After the war, Fleming returned to the hospital St. Mary. In 1922, while carrying out an investigation where he found something he called lysozyme. Lysozyme produced by the human body, consisting of both components consisting of mucus and fluid point of tears that is not a danger to the human body cells. Components that would cripple certain germs, but unfortunately not effective on special bacteria harmful to humans. These findings, however interesting, does not have great meaning.

Fleming's 1928 New year managed to find something meaningful. Laboratory breed bacteria "staphylococcus", was left open just in the air and become dirty and rotten. Fleming found in breeding some of decay, the bacteria become liquid. He quickly concluded that the decomposition is to produce something toxic substances against bacteria "staphylococcus". Soon he was able to show that the substance was similar to the growth of various types of harmful bacteria. The substance - which is named after the event penicilin decay (Penicillium notatum) - not a good fluid for humans and animals.

Fleming's findings was published in 1929, but did not at first attract much attention. Fleming argued that penicilin importance for treatment. However, he himself was unable to develop techniques to purify penicilin, and more than ten years that important drugs remain displaced.

Finally, at the end of the 1930s, two British medical investigator, Howard Walter Florey and Ernst Boris Chain Fleming discovered writing. They review the work of Fleming and refine and make clear the results. They then purify penicilin, trying substance in laboratory animals. In 1941 they tried to penicillin in people who suffer from pain. Their experiments clearly prove that this new drug has amazing potential.

The instigation of British and American governments, drug manufacturers began to plunge and is now paying attention and quickly develop methods to produce penicillin in large amount. Initially, penicillin was just made available for the use of the victims of war, but the year 1944 can be used by civil society in the UK and America.

When the war finished in 1945, the use of penicillin has spread throughout the world.

The discovery of penicillin is very inspiring investigation of other antibiotics, and subsequent investigations have led to various "miracle drug" but, penicillin remains the antibiotic most widely in use.

One reason which makes lasting advantages are: penicillin effective against various micro-organisms which form dangerous. These drugs are useful for healing of syphilis, gonorrhea, diphtheria, as well as various arthiritis, bronchitis, scarlet, liver, gangrene, and many more.

Another advantage is penicillin used relatively safe. 50,000 units penicillin dose effective for fighting various infections. And injection of 100 million units of penicillin a day did not cause any effect. Although the small number of people allergic to penicillin, for most people is a drug that can ripen durability and security.

Since penicillin has saved millions of lives of people and certainly will save more lives in the future, very few schools of different people about the meaning of Fleming's discovery of penicillin. The right place for him in this order list depends, of course, to what extent people give meaning to the role given by Florey and Chain. I think, some services and the role terpokok on Fleming had discovered the essential findings. Without Fleming, many people need time to discover penicillin. Once he announced results of its discovery, sooner or later it will happen and improvements memproduksinyasecara more pure.

Fleming married and live happily with the gift of a child. In 1945 he won the Nobel Prize for his discovery services, and share the gift to Florey and Chain. He closed his eyes in 1955 Michael H. Hart,One hundred most influential figures in the history.
